This standard emphasises the range of professional learning teachers must engage in throughout their career to be the most effective teachers they can be. The standard emphasises that teachers identify their own learning and enact on this learning both collegially and individually.
Focus area 6.1 Identify and plan professional learning needs
Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Australian Professional Standard for Teachers in identifying professional learning needs
This portfolio is a demonstration of my knowledge of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. The picture to the left shows goals that I created based on the Standards and areas in which I believe I needed further development.
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
Understand the relevant and appropriate sources of professional learning for teachers
Throughout all of my placements I have been on, I do my best to participate and involve myself with all staff meetings. At Warragul Secondary College I participated in a personal development day and at Cobram Secondary College I attended a personal development evening on literacy for secondary students. At both Warragul Regional College and Cobram Secondary I participated in KLA staff meetings.
6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice
Seek and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and teachers to improve teaching practices
Attached is a copy of my final report from a high school placement showing that I had achieved the ability to engage with colleagues and improves practice from a supervisor teacher.
6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning
Demonstrate an understanding of the rationale for continued professional learning and the implications for improved student learning
Below is evidence of where my supervising teacher has commented on me successfully seeking professional advice and learning from this advice. I then applied this advice to my practice.
