Focus area 4.1 Support student participation
Identify strategies to support inclusive student participation and engagement in classroom activities
This comment by my supervising teacher demonstrates my ability to support student participation in classroom activities. I have found it invaluable in my high school placements to direct questions at students to reengage them in class participation.
Focus area 4.2 Manage classroom activities
Demonstrate the capacity to organise classroom activities and provide clear directions
This is evidence taken from my final high school placement showing that I am effectively able to demonstrate my ability to manage classroom activities.
Focus area 4.3 Manage challenging behaviour
Demonstrate knowledge of practical approaches to manage challenging behaviour
During my time at Cobram Secondary College I enacted a seating plan for one of my year 7 English classes after the first lesson. During my first lesson with the year 7 class students were not following the rules, so before I began my next lesson, I had the seating plan on the board, the tables set out as students came in and the rules projected on the board at the back of the room. I went through the class rules and the consequences of not following the class rules. I believe that my classes ran a lot smoother once I firmly set down the class rules and consequences. Below is comments from my supervising teacher on what i did during these lessons.
Focus area 4.4 Maintain student safety
Describe strategies that support students' well-being and safety working within school and/ or system, curriculum and legislative requirements
It is important as a teacher to be prepared to handle situations which involve student well-being. I have completed my mental health first aid and my child protection awareness training to ensure that I can handle these situation in the most appropriate and effective manner.
Focus area 4.5 Use ICT safely, responsibly and ethically
Demonstrate an understanding of the relevant issues and the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching
During my time at Cobram Secondary College I attended a cyber bully safety lecture which involved students from years 7-10. This lecture provided teachers with the knowledge and understanding of strategies to support students use of ICT safely and responsibly. It also encouraged teachers to be more aware of what students are doing on social media and how the school can control these issues.
